“We tend to think of healing as something binary: either we’re broken or we’re healed from that brokenness. But that’s not how healing operates, and it’s almost never how human growth works. More often, healing and growth take place on a continuum, with innumerable points between utter brokenness and total health.”

Life Transitions

Life transitions can include major milestones such as moving to a new city, changing jobs, leaving a relationship, and becoming a parent. While these changes may be exciting, they sometimes elicit a sense of loss, along with anxiety, social isolation, and difficulty adjusting to the transition.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

  • We offer a variety of evidence-based treatments focused on the processing of trauma and reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our experts have specialty training in cognitive processing therapy (CPT), prolonged exposure (PE), written exposure therapy (WET), eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), and narrative exposure therapy (NET).

You and your therapist will collaboratively determine which treatment may be the best fit for you and your path to healing.

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy focused on understanding how your thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and physical sensations impact each other and keep you feeling stuck. We challenge your unhelpful beliefs and behaviors, helping you reduce your distress, develop new perspectives, and work toward your treatment goals.

CBT is used to treat a variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and insomnia.

  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a form of therapy that empowers you to tolerate distress, manage intense emotions, ground yourself in the present moment, and improve your relationships. We hope to provide you with the DBT skills you may need to create a meaningful life.

Note that we solely offer DBT in the context of individual sessions. We do not offer comprehensive DBT at this time and thus do not provide phone coaching or groups. Upon request, we provide you with suggestions and resources for where to access these types of services.

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a form of therapy that supports you in fully embracing your current thoughts and emotions.

Once you accept your inner experience, you can make meaningful changes to your life through mindfulness, values exploration, and engaging in values-aligned actions.

  • Exposure and response prevention (ERP) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) primarily used for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

In ERP, you will practice exposure by gradually confronting situations, objects, thoughts, and images that provoke obsessive thoughts or fears. You will practice response prevention which involves choosing not to engage in the compulsive behaviors or rituals that are triggered by the obsessions.

ERP will help you break the OCD cycle, reducing your symptoms and giving you the tools to manage your fears and take back your life.

  • When you are feeling stuck or struggling with challenging experiences, it is often hard to show yourself compassion. In all therapies, we will incorporate self-compassion techniques to help you increase self-validation and acceptance, reduce self-judgment, and compassionately work toward healing and growth.

  • Mindfulness skills allow you to remain grounded in the present moment and take a non-judgmental stance toward your thoughts and emotions.

Further, mindfulness skills support you in reducing your stress levels, improving your mood, and increasing your focus. You will work with your therapist to identify the specific mindfulness skills that might be especially conducive to your well-being.

  • Emotionally-focused therapy (EFT) for couples draws from attachment theory and supports couples in reestablishing strong emotional bonds with one another.

In service of this goal, EFT will help you and your partner look to your emotions for guidance on how to alleviate feelings of longing and isolation and, ultimately, rebuild mutual comfort and connection within your romantic relationship.

  • Integrative behavioral couple therapy (IBCT) is an approach for couples that integrates principles of acceptance (emotional acceptance of each other) and change (modifying behaviors that make it challenging for partners to meet each others’ needs).

IBCT helps couples reduce conflict and improve communication.
